The levelling game
Centre-hair readings are booked as backsights, intermediate sights or foresights, and the difference between successive points goes into the field book as a rise or fall. The interval between the upper and lower stadia hairs gives each sight distance. Closing back on a known benchmark leaves a misclosure to calculate and adjust.
